In Year 1 we cover a range of genres; fiction, non fiction and poetry. We primarily focus on narratives and build the children up from labelling and captions to simple sentences and onto retelling. The texts we choose to explore with the children often link to our topics but not always. Occassionally we will choose texts that we feel will engage or inspire the children in order to support them in making the best progress possible with their writing.
