Art
Our art topic this half term is called 'People and Places' and we will be studying the artist Lowry.
Lesson 1
This week we did some still life sketches of our friends in class. We looked at lots of examples first and watched a video.
Lesson 2
We looked in more detail at the work of the artist L.S Lowry. We studied three of his paintings in detail:
Coming from the Mill
Going to the Match
Group of People
Lesson 3 - Tints, Tones and Shades
This week we learnt how to mix tints, tones and shades starting with a pure colour.
Add white to a colour to create a tint.
Add grey to a colour you produce a tone.
Add black to a colour to make a shade.
We created colour swatches in our sketchbooks.
Lesson 4 - sketching in the style of Lowry
For this lesson, we went outside and took images of children at play on the iPad.
We then recreated this scenes in our sketchbooks in the style of Lowry.
Lesson 5 - Field trip
For this lesson we went out into the local area to sketch the buildings and the people.
These sketches will inspire our final piece of artwork.
Lesson 6 - The final piece
We sketched our Lowry inspired art work and then painted them using the five colours used by Lowry:
- vermilion (red)
- ivory black
- Prussian blue
- yellow ochre
- flake white
We mixed shades, tints and tones to create the colours we wanted.
Our reflections taught us that we needed to paint the people in our paintings bigger and make them them more like those Lowry painted. We found painting smaller people very tricky.
