Our topic this term is 'Rocks, Relics and Rumbles'. 

So far we have learnt:

  • about sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks and how they are formed
  • about the properties of rocks and how they are used
  • about the different layers of the Earth
  • about how fossils are formed and consolidated our Year 2 learning about Mary Anning
  • about the types of soil in the school grounds by testing the soil in different areas
  • about tectonic plates and how their movement creates volcanoes, earthquakes or tsunamis
  • about the Ring of Fire and why it is a significant area for volcanoes
  • about the features of volcanoes and how they are formed
  • to use latitude and longitude to locate volcanoes on a world map
  • how to use the search engine 'Swiggle' to research well known volcanoes across the world
  • about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii and the effects it had on the area and people
  • about how earthquakes and tsunamis are formed
