Growing already! Thank you Mr Neil for attaching the pots and painting the rest of our pallet.

Creating Digital Art: Miss Hulland and children in Years 4 and 5 used the iPads to create this art work.

Miss Hulland and Miss Cooper were very excited today - we wanted to transform a wooden pallet into a rainbow planter for our paddock. Thank you to our wonderful group who used their horticultural and painting skills. We cannot wait to see the results of the seed planting! Thank you in advance to Mr Neil who is going to attach the pots to the pallet!

Our Happy 100th Birthday Banner for Captain Tom

Our wonderful key workers’ children made this amazing banner in honour of Captain Tom’s 100th Birthday.  We are all very proud of him for completing his challenge and raising so much money for the NHS.  We wish you the happiest of birthdays Captain Tom.

Reception and Year 6 Buddies

Our Reception children have been learning about Chinese New Year and so they shared an activity with their Year 6 buddies. Lots of skills were practised in making their Chinese dragon heads.

Dr. Ken's Amazing Science Circus

Thank you to Mr Broom and Mrs Galloway for organising a wonderful day of Science with Dr. Ken on Tuesday 14th January. After wowing us with his circus skills, he then worked with different Year Groups to teach them about different aspects of scientific enquiry. Year 6 children enjoyed a range of light investigations which will be developed in their 'Light and How We See' topic this half term.

Christmas Buddying

Year 6 and Reception children enjoyed their last buddying session of 2019 to exchange gifts and cards. Once again Santa Claus and his elves made a very special appearance, delivering gifts for every child. We are extremely proud of how Year 6 children have nurtured their buddies this term and we know how much they are already looking forward to spending time with them again in 2020.

Christmas Lunch

Our children enjoyed their Christmas lunch on Thursday 19th December in the presence of a Very Important Person - Santa Claus himself! A massive thank you to all the kitchen and teaching staff for assisting in the feast!

Community Christmas Party

We enjoyed our annual Community Christmas Party on Thursday 19th December. After designing and making the invitations, our wonderful Year 6 children organised and hosted the party for our community guests. Each year group performed a selection of songs from their Christmas performances (there were a few tears from the guests!) and Year 6 children rounded off the party with a rendition of 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas.' A massive thank you to everyone who assisted and attended. Once again we wish all of our school community and family a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Year 5 Plastic art inspired by Chihuly

For Year 5's plastic recycling art project we looked at the art work of Dale Chihuly. He makes glass sculptures  inspired by the natural world, especially the sea. He has a very strong sense of team work which is needed for the art of glass blowing. He also lost an eye while visiting the UK but still continues to work and create masterpieces. Find out more on this website: We hope you like our creations.

British Artists Enrichment

In Miss Hulland's 'British Artists' Enrichment project, children in Years 1-6 have been learning about

David Hockney, Dame Barbara Hepworth, Bridget Riley and Sir Antony Gormley. They have created their own art work in the style of these artists using a range of media.

Christmas Craft with Year 6 and their Reception Buddies

Children in Year 6 have enjoyed creating Christmas Santas with their buddies. The activity involved following and ordering instructions carefully, sharing equipment and working together to create a finished collage.

Poet Rachel Rooney

Following Rachel Rooney's poetry workshop on Tuesday 12th November and the delivery of her anthology 'A Kid in my Class', she has very kindly contacted us to share her thoughts of her visit:

"I visit many schools but my session with Chickerell was one of the more memorable ones. As soon as I entered I felt welcomed into an environment that was relaxed yet focused and ready to embrace the possibilities that poetry can bring. The pupils were engaged and engaging throughout, and brimming with original ideas. All credit to the class staff who have clearly worked hard to create a classroom atmosphere that made me want to be a child again.  I know my 'Kids' are safe in their hands... Brava!"

WOW! Wonderful feedback. Thank you to the children in Years 5 and 6 who took part. We are very proud of you.

Year 6 Buddying

Year 6 children enjoyed learning about Electricity and Circuits in Autumn 1. Their final learning task was to design and make a circuit game for their Reception buddies. 6DH children enjoyed sharing their games and explained how their worked.

Creative Curriculum

Our classroom displays show a plethora of cross-curricular teaching and learning opportunities with a key focus on History, Art, Rights Respecting Schools and Global Citizenship.

Rachel Rooney's Poetry Anthology Arrives!

Our budding poets in Years 5 and 6 were very happy to receive Rachel Rooney's anthology 'A Kid in my Class' on Friday 15th November. As promised, each copy was personalised and signed by the poet. What a treat! Miss Hulland cannot wait to read your poems and hope you have been inspired by the experience.

Buddy Tree

Year 6 children and their Reception buddies have collaborated to create their beautiful Buddy Tree. It is a symbol of friendship, diversity and equality between the two year groups who meet together weekly to share quality time to enjoy activities such as reading, drawing, writing, creative play and physical agility. Each child added their unique fingerprint to create the tree.

Rachel Rooney Poetry Workshop

On Tuesday 12th November published poet Rachel Rooney led a poetry workshop for 30 children from Years 5 and 6. She shared some of her award-winning poems and we collaborated to create our own. The children will each receive a copy of her latest anthology 'A Kid in my Class'.

Remembrance Service 2019

On Friday 8th November the whole school assembled to pay our respects to all service men and women and animals who have died in action.

Our Year 6 pupils read For The Fallen by Laurence Binyon and Mr Pask played The Last Post on his trumpet.

Here are Year 5 learning about the Langar. Langar, is the term used in Sikhism for the community kitchen in a Gurdwara where a free meal is served to all the visitors, without distinction of religion, caste, gender, economic status or ethnicity. The free meal is always vegetarian. Article 14 I have the right to have my own thoughts and beliefs and to choose my religion, with my parents’ guidance.
